Clothes for the Seasons
Rome Weather
The climate in Rome has a Mediterranean ambiance with simmering, dry summers and mild, showery winters. Because of the city's location, it gets cooler than the southern region in winter but frequently warmer in summer as the city's edifices trap the heat. Throughout the year temperatures can vary between 39°F (4°C) and 85°F (29°C). The month of July is the hottest and January the coldest. Rainfall is most abundant in the fall and the beginning of winter. December is the dampest month. On the contrary, summer is the driest season and August has literally zero precipitation.
There's sunshine year-round even during winter when temperatures can drop to freezing. However, it's only warm enough for swimming in the summer and fall seasons. The best way to determine what to wear is to check the weather prior to going out. You will then have a precise idea of what to wear and any extras you should bring in case of dramatic temperature changes.
When in Rome···
When determining what to wear in Rome, think about the old adage “when in Rome, do what the Romans do.” It goes without saying, the Roman style of dress is sophisticated with a touch of flair and uniqueness as it is throughout Europe. For example, a fancy top with a pair of nice jeans (no jeans ripped in the thigh or knee) preferably in a dark shade will work. Skinny or slim jeans are popular. Your outfit should be tidy as well. Slacks that are too long or uneven skirts will appear untidy.
The city is fashionable there's no question about it. People wear all sorts of fashion from denim to haute couture. Dress stylish but comfortable. Pants should not be so tight that it's uncomfortable to sit and heels shouldn't be so high that it's nearly impossible to walk properly! When visiting Roman churches, women shoulders and knees should be covered. Keep a few stylish scarfs in your wardrobe. They will come in handy on many occasions especially for a quick yet stylish cover-up.
Prepare for winters in Rome when temperatures can go below freezing with a fashionable warm wool coat/jacket or down filled coat, gloves, and hat to stay warm. Don't let a sudden downpour catch you unprepared, carry a lightweight foldable umbrella during the fall and early winter.

More Information
Dress Like the Romans
Dressing casual in Rome is fine as long as it looks good and not too casual. Jeans, khaki and cargo pants, sandals, even a posh pair of sneakers will do. The idea is to dress refined and not stand out too much. For example, you may want to wear relaxed attire when going out to eat; however, the style of dress when dining out is not informal. No shorts or tank tops at the dinner table. In fact, you will hardly find adults in Rome wearing short-shorts in the city or during the hottest time of year. Pants to the knee like Bermudas for men and culottes for women are acceptable. Also capri pants made from cotton or linen, nice sundresses and skirts are also in style. Dresses are always safe especially when it comes to looking stylish in the city. They're effeminate and easy to transform from basic to dressy with the addition of accessories and a change of shoes. It's an all-in-one outfit. If long skirts and dresses are not your thing, jumpsuits or slacks are a perfect substitute.
Choose the right fabric for the right look. Flowing fabrics work best for dresses while quality cotton is perfect for shirts. Fabrics like cotton and linen are organic and breathable. Rayon and viscose works as well but they are synthetic.
Don't appear too casual. Select styles from fabrics that look like quality even if you paid very little for them. Nonetheless, synthetic materials can come in handy. Polyester blends work for most styles and is easy to take care of.
What do Men Wear in Rome?
In Rome, men are just as stylish as the women. You won't see backwards baseball caps or sleeveless sports shirts with large numbers on them!
-Nice t-shirts are acceptable but shirts opened down to the chest or with blaring words written on them are not. A crew neck or understated v-neck shirt, modest colored or slightly patterned shirts are fine. The safest route is to have t-shirts that easily go into the evening if necessary. Quality long sleeved shirts, don't worry about tucking it in, with a collar will be a hit. Sleeves rolled-up a couple of times work too. Polo shirts are also trendy.
-A pair of decent jeans will do. Especially paired with a cotton shirt and suit jacket. Dark jeans are best.
-You want your feet to be comfortable so a pair of stylish comfy shoes in leather or even a pair of clean sneakers will also work.
Additional Things to Know:
Keep in mind, modest attire is the way to go in Rome. Trekking around in tank tops, shorts, and otherwise extremely casual wear is a no-no. Go with neutral shades to be safe and add pastel colors for a bit of flair. Churches like the Vatican and the Catacombs require unassuming attire. Shoulders and midriffs should be covered. Don't forget to bring a good sunscreen against UVA/UVB rays with zinc oxide, an organic sunscreen ingredient that creates a barrier against sunrays physically not chemically.
ROME
Rome is a wonderful city. The saying “Rome Wasn't Built In A Day” has a new meaning once you see the city in real life. It's amazing! The city is a real world montage of impressive sites, piazzas, and open-air markets. Have an espresso while chilling out and watching the world go by or throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain, there's plenty to do and see. It's no secret that Rome is a fashionable city as well. The idea is to dress stylishly and comfortably with a touch of eleganza!
