Tagged with the moniker "Hotlanta" many think it's an indication that Atlanta has roasting hot temperatures throughout the year. Luckily, that's not true. The city has an average climate including four well-defined seasons. Yes, summers can be scorching and humid; however, the fall offers cooler days and nights. Sometimes there's snow and ice-storms during the winter season and a beauteous spring to follow.

Temperatures can reach into the high 80s Fahrenheit with humidity during the summer season. Fall and spring are the most comfortable. The hottest month is July with temperatures reaching around 90°F. The coldest month is January with a low of 34°F. Year-round temperatures fluctuates from 34°F to 90°F and seldom falls below 20°F or more than 95°F. Overall, Atlanta averages roughly 48 days annually below freezing with just under three-inches of snow during the year. The heaviest rainfall is in July with the least rainfall in April.

What to Wear Year Round in Atlanta

Atlanta is a fashionable city where people like use color, patterns, various fabrics and modes to suit their style. You will see everything from conservative suits to casual khaki pants or shorts. Popular fabrics are linen and cottons to stay cool during the summer. And wool and thick overcoats to stay warm in the winter. Women love to accessorize with modern jewelry and fashionable pumps. Men in the city are not shy to wear bright shorts and pastel shirts. It's all part of the laid-back yet modernistic ambiance of Atlanta.

During the last of winter and beginning of spring temperatures get a bit chilly during the evening so a lightweight jacket or sweater will keep you comfy and warm. When it gets humid light clothing is best in organic materials. If you like walking or jogging be sure to invest in a good pair of sneakers and enjoy the new Atlanta Beltline, a citified refurbishing project that altered 22-miles of unused railroad lines into sprawling parks and great walking and jogging trails. Keep in mind, some nightclubs do not permit shorts, sneakers, or t-shirts. Any of the clothing basics are appropriate in the city like shorts, cargo pants, tank tops, flip-flops, and athletic shoes. However, if you go into the Buckhead area, you might want to dress up a bit more.

Jeans are a staple so always have a few pairs on hand. Long sleeved t-shirts, hoodies/sweatshirts, or a light jacket are important during the summer season as the air conditioning can be quite cold inside stores, restaurants, and other establishments.

Though Atlanta is known as a great metropolis, it's just under 100 miles from the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you like hiking this is the place to get started. Be sure to have the correct hiking gear along with the right walking shoes that offer support.
